Expectant Little Knits

I'm supposed to be receiving a copy from the publisher, but I couldn't wait; I bought a copy of Expectant Little Knits from Amazon. No, I don't have any news on the family additions front, but I do have two patterns in this book--including the Double Wing Top, pictured on the cover.  The other pattern is also a sleeveless top, but worked in cotton instead of silk/merino, and called "Anjou"--"put a positive spin on 'pear-shaped' with this empire waist top"!

Although I can't vouch for the general quality of the instructions, not having knitted any of the projects except for my own samples, I can say that I was quite impressed with the appearance and variety of the various garments, which included some creative ways to accommodate body changes both during pregnancy and afterwards:  buttons along the sides, or across the bust to allow for discreet nursing; removable side panels; side pleats; and of course, stretchy stitch patterns like lace and ribbing.  In fact, although I'm delighted one of my patterns made the cover, I'm not sure how or why it was chosen from among so many great designs!  The last three photos show my personal favorites (in order pictured):  the Gherkin Tunic by Ashley Moncrief, the Red Twist Dress by Helen Hamann, and the Lacy Babydoll by Melissa Wehrle.

Edited to add:  Connie asked whether my statement that I couldn't vouch for the instructions meant that I wrote up the patterns only for the sample size for my projects.  The answer is no--I did write the instructions for all the sizes for my patterns!  I just meant the instructions for all of the other projects in the book.  However, I should have noted that Donna Druchunas did the editing, which is a very good sign!

Cover Girl

Well, not me; but it appears that one of my two patterns included in the upcoming book Expectant Little Knits will grace the cover!  (At left:  the Cover Girl pre-blocking.)  That's a first for print media for me, although I did go three for three in my patterns for Magknits last year.  (Unfortunately, my pattern for a child's wrap sweater in the upcoming Interweave Knits Holiday Gifts did not make the cover, and alas, perhaps did not even find a flesh-and-blood model).

Allora, non io; pero', sembra che uno di' miei due modelli inclusi nel libro Expectant Little Knits sara' sulla copertina!  (A sinistra:  la Cover Girl prima era bloccato.)  Ecco un primo per pubblicazione sulla carta, benche ho fatto "tre per tre" nei miei modelli per Magknits l'anno scorso.  (Purtroppo, il mio modello per un golf per bambini nel Interweave Knits Holiday Gifts 2007 non e' sulla copertina, e (che peccato!) forse non ha nemmeno trovato un' indossatore con corpo humano.)

Errata for Double Wing Top from Expectant Little Knits

Charts A and B are reversed; Chart B should be used first, followed by Chart A.

After completing Chart C or Chart D, the number of stitches per repeat will be decreased; this is not indicated on the charts.

Chart C (used for Size S only): After Row 5, stitch count decreased to 14, with 8 knit sts between k2tog and ssk; after Row 7, stitch count decreased to 12, with 8 knit sts between k2tog and ssk; after Row 9, stitch count decreased to 10.  Chart D (used for Sizes M, L and XL): After Row 3, stitch count dereased to 15, with 7 knit sts between k2tog and ssk; after Row 7, stitch count decreased to 13, with 9 knit sts between k2tog and ssk; after Row 9, stitch count decreased to 11.
